Wondering about this weekends weather

Wow, the humidity is starting to get back to normal. This morning it was 88 percent and I am sure it will get up into the 90 percentages real soon. Don’t like the drought nor the fire hazards, but I did really enjoy the drier air. That is unusual for this area of the Gulf Coast.

They are now predicting a 20 percent chance of rain for today and tomorrow. As much as we need the rain, I hope it rains everywhere but at the race track. Yep, I am going to the top fuel drag races that come to the Houston area just once a year. This will be my 5th year in a row. The first year I went myself, and after that, I got the two seats in front of mine and take friends, customers, or family. My wife can not stand the sound of race cars, so she has never experienced a top fuel race.

Yes, that is correct, you experience it, you feel it, you smell it, you taste it, and you love it. There is nothing like it. There is nothing else that accelerates man as quickly as does the top fuel cars. They burn nitro methane, or should I say that they explode it in their cylinders. After each run of a few seconds, the motors need completely rebuilt.

They now only run 1000 feet, 320 feet less than a quarter of a mile, but still reach speeds way over 300 mph. In fact at the 660 feet mark they average 270 to 280 mph. The earth shaking 8000 hp engines can really accelerate those cars down the track. The thing that really amazes me is how they get all that power to the surface of the track with out just sitting there at the starting line burning all the rubber off the tires. Simply amazing and I am going to enjoy myself again, you can bet on that!

I will watch the time trials on TV today and my wife will record the race for me so that I can watch it when I get home. The best of both worlds, being there and then watching it from your living room.

So, you have now been forewarned that I will not be posting a blog tomorrow.

  2. Have a great time!! Ur wife hasnt tried ear plugs? Been a lot of years since i had that bone rattling thrill. We also did the boat races, the jet ones, too. These used to be held in Austin, but the crabby people living on the banks, finally got their way and they quit having them there.

  4. It's the bleach that they pour on the track in the staging area for the pre burn that makes the tires stick to the track..

  5. Ricky, yes I have seen that done years ago. Don't believe they do it at Top Fuel events. I was there before the any cars went down the track and didn't leave until after all were done. I didn't see anything used except water out of a hose.
