Wondering about wild grapes

Walked Up the Driveway Today.

The first thing that caught my eye were a bunch of teeny little mushrooms.  To give you an idea of their size, that is a nickel laying there among them.  Dang, the elves that live under those toadstools must be awfully short. . . (grin).  I just had to take a picture and post it here on my blog:

Then a little further on I saw some more.  You have to look carefully to see them hiding among the leaves:

Then not much further there was a stump with all kinds of thing going on.  Different kinds of fungi and some sawdust from something boring into it:

Then I got closer and took a picture of this strange looking fungus:

It just goes to prove the old saying that there is fungus among us.

This next picture is of a mushroom that is shaped like an egg:

And the last fungus picture shows a mushroom in full bloom:

Of course there were wild flowers along the driveway, also.
A yellow one:

And blue ones:

And of course a good morning glory to you:

I love the diverse and beautiful blooms of nature, whether fungus or flowers.  Hope these pictures brightened your day.  They sure did brighten my day.  Now, you all have a great day, you hear?

Beautiful Day and Sunset

It was a beautiful day.  Just the right temperature with lots of sunshine and a slight breeze.  I could take a few more days like today, cool in the morning.  It is 66 degrees right now (7:52 pm) and only got up into the 70's this afternoon.  And to top it off, we had a very pretty sunset.  Here are some pictures of it for you to enjoy:

I wanted to share my sunset with all of you, my blogger friends.  Now have a great evening, you hear?

Weather and Word Meanings.

Cold and damp weather blew in here and the high today was only in the low 70's and it got down in the low 50's over night.  The rain that we have been seeing the last couple of days has let up, but we got our share for sure.  It wasn't a torrential down pour but a steady rain over a long period of time.  I would say that the drought has been broken for sure.

On another subject, I have been wondering about words.  The English language has many strange words, meanings, and rules.  For instance, some words that are spelled the same, pronounced the same, but mean different things (Homonyms), like:

Bark, on a tree
Bark, what a dog does.

There are words that are spelled the same but are pronounced different and have different meanings (Heteronym), like:

Bass, the fish I like to catch
Bass, the low part of the music.

Wind, air movement
Wind, wind up a clock, etc.

Lead, meaning the heavy, soft metal
Lead, meaning to go first and the rest will follow. (He will lead them out of the woods.)

Then there are words that are spelled different, pronounced different, but mean the same (Synonym), like:

Assume and presume, to believe something before it happens.

There are a lot more I could post but I am going to post this now, since I didn't post anything yesterday.  Now, you all have a great day, you hear?

Had a Great Idea. . . but.

I was laying in bed last night and just before I fell asleep, I got thinking about my blog.  I came up with a real great idea!!  I was so excited it was hard to get to sleep.  But guess what?  When I woke up this morning, I remembered having a great idea but as hard as I tried, I just could not remember what it was.  Dang!!  So, I thought I would put off writing my blog until this evening, hoping it would pop back into my memory.

Well, it didn't.  So, I have really don't have a subject for today.  Maybe tonight I will lay a pad and pencil beside my bed, or not.  Since I lost my great idea, I guess I will just say:  You all have a great day, you hear?

Just Like New, Almost.

On our way to an appointment yesterday, I stopped by the  computer fix-it shop and picked up my laptop.  It seems to be working great and it even took a full charge.  The technician told me to be extra gentle with it, since there is only one bracket left to hold the power plug in place.

The problem is my rocker/recliner.  Yes, you heard me right.  I sit here in it rocking and typing and reading blogs, etc.  When I plug in the charger wire, sometimes it bumps up against the arm of the chair.  This bumping bent the plug and eventually broke it.  I will have to be more careful when charging, since I will still be sitting in "my" chair.  I could sit elsewhere, like on the couch, but the couch doesn't rock.  OK, I admit, I am spoiled.  I want my cake and want to eat it, too.  That means that I will continue sitting and rocking in my rocker while I am using the computer or watching TV or reading.  I am too old a dog to teach new tricks.

I got my tablet out and tried to get on line but I couldn't remember the pass-words.  I tried and tried and tried, but it will not work.  That is why I seemed to have disappeared from the blogger world, but like Jack Nicholson's famous saying in The Shining, "Honey, I'm home".  Well, I am back, too.

Now, you all have a great day, you hear?

Unusual Tote Bags

Have you ever been shopping and taken notice of all the different kinds of tote bags or shopping bags or what ever you call them, that people carry?  I decided to go search the internet for some unusual bags.  I found four that I have posted below.

This first one is suppose to be a cupcake.  I don't think that I would carry this one but you women out there may be interested.  It would go with your outfit that you wear to birthday parties, etc.  Looks almost good enough to eat:

How about one for that active person who just loves to exercise by jumping rope?  As you notice that the ones on the left show a gal and the ones on the right show a guy.  The jump rope is the carrying handle and it looks right while just sitting there or when someone is carrying it.

This one is called "Nail biter?", but it looks to me like that gal is taking a bite of much more than just nails. . . (grin).

Now this is my kind of bag.  I like it, especially if there is a gun inside it, too.

OK, that is it for today.  Now you all have a great day, you hear?

Wondering About Aliens from Space.

I am not saying that there are alien life forms living out there in the universe somewhere.  But then, I am not saying there isn't.  The universe is a very huge place and life could have taken a foothold in other places than our Earth.  There have been signals (one was nicknamed the "Wow" signal) received that have not been explained, but neither have they been heard again.

I was reading an internet article (http://bestpictureblog.com/20-mind-blowing-facts-about-aliens/15/) that was interesting and then I came to number 15 about Napoleon Bonaparte.  What it said blew my mind.  He claimed that he had been abducted by aliens.  You know, he was missing back in July of 1794 for several days and could have been abducted.  Then in modern times, "scientists found a tiny foreign object embedded within the skeletal remains of Napoleon and announced the thing to be a micro chip."  I copied the exact words from the web page I listed above so that you would know it wasn't just me writing it.  It was the discovery of the micro chip that blew my mind.

Does anyone out there have another explanation of it being there?  If so, please tell us your theory.  Now, keep those micro chips out of your heads and have a really great day, you hear?

Son Is On His Way

Our son is on his way home for a short break from his job on Alaska's North Shore.  What a difference it will be for him, leaving the freezing weather up there and arriving here where it will be 88 degrees today.  I know he will be very happy to see his wife and family again.  Once he gets here, I bet he will not want to return to the Arctic Ocean beach front where the seals swim and the polar bears pretend they are life guards. . . yeah, right, I am sure the bears are watching the seals, but not to save them.  The seals are the bears main diet.

It will be great to see him.  I bet it will not be long until I hear his tractor running (grin).  That will be enough excitement for today.  Now, I hope you all have a great day, you hear?

A Quick Bloom

The reason the title is "A Quick Bloom", is because this plant's blooms only last a day at the most or a few hours at the least.  My wife has raised this plant for years and takes clippings and puts them in water (or dirt) to take root.  One of them is in full bloom so I thought that I would share its beauty with you:

I believe that these are Epiphyllum or the Orchid Cactus.  But I may be wrong.  The pictures of them don't look quite the same.  Here is a link to a website that tells a little about Epiphyllum: Click HERE.

Just so you think that is all she has growing, here is another small sample of what she grows:

There are also flowers growing in the garden, on the screened in back porch, and in the house.  I would think that she has a green thumb but when she has her hands in the dirt, the green on the thumb is covered up with dark brown dirt (grin).  Now, you all have a great day, you hear?

A Couple of Sayings and a Couple of Pictures

Some of us never learn to mind our own business, but the person who posted this first saying learned how to mind his own business the hard way:

Well, this next one proves one can get a little too awake:

This next gadget is one I would just love to have.  I am sure it would make people take a second look and then wouldn't believe their eyes.  It gives the illusion that you can look right through a person and see what is behind him or her.

I have been trying to figure out this last picture and the only conclusion I can come up with is that she has been driving a car with worn out shocks on a really bumpy road.  Do you have a better explanation?

It took me awhile to find some new stuff to post.  Hope you like it.  Now, you all have a great day, you hear?

Wondering About Alfred E. Neuman

Back in my younger days, I loved Mad magazine and especially the quotes of Alfred E. Neuman.

I found a list of some of Neuman's quotes and his twisted logic always made me laugh, or at least grin a lot.  Some of his one liners would make you stop and think a bit and then it hits you and you can't help but burst out in laughter or at least a big grin.  I found a list of some of Alfred E. Neuman's quotes at this web-site:

http://www.leedberg.com/mad/quotes/quotes.html

I will leave you with one of his "words of wisdom":

Now, you all have a great day and be like Alfred and don't worry, or like some people say, don't sweat the small stuff.  Remember to click on the link I gave you and enjoy some more humor.  Have a great day, you hear?

Apophis

No, not the person, the near-Earth asteroid that created quite a scare back in 2004.  It was named Apophis.  Then they figured the next pass by us on April 13, 2029. it may smack right into us.  We all got a little upset until we found out that the chance of that happening was only about 2.7%.  That is not a lot, in fact I liked our chances of it missing us at 97.3%.

Apophis is 1066 feet in diameter.  A rock that size would make a quite a dent in old Mother Earth.  In fact, they blame an impact of an asteroid for the extinction of the dinosaurs.  It could cause a global winter that could change Earth for quite a few years.  There is a possibility that during its close encounter with us in 2029, Apophis would pass through a gravitational keyhole that would set up an impact seven years later.  (Which would be April 13, 2036)  This "keyhole" is a small region only about a half mile wide.  The chance is slim that it would pass through this very small patch of space.  This isn't to say that that other objects from "out there" wouldn't have us in their sights and we don't know about them. . . yet.  The universe is a wonder but it isn't a very peaceful place.

This is another among many reasons why we should live each day as if it were the last one that we have.  Now, don't worry, I didn't write this to scare you.  Just wanted you all to be aware of what could be.  But for now, just have yourselves a great day, you hear?

I Can't Find Pictures.

I am ready to pull some of my long hair out!!  I can't find the pictures that I am looking for.  Yes, I know this laptop's hard-drive was wiped clean, but I have all the chips saved from my cameras.  I just spent the afternoon looking through all those pictures on the all those chips.  See my header picture up there on top of my blog?  I could not even find that one.

Why do I want some of my pictures?  Well, I talked to my cousin Judy last night on the phone to see what the status was of her brother (yes, you guessed it, he is my cousin, too) who has been seriously ill and in the hospital and the prognoses does not look good.  I am not going to go into details, but I am worried about him.  Well, I told my cousin Judy on the phone that I would send her a few select pictures.  Well, I can't find the ones I wanted to send to her.  Where oh were did they go???

Now I will have to go try to fire up some of my old desk-top computers to see if I can find those missing pictures on them.  Well, maybe not today.  There is always tomorrow.  You know, don't ever do today what you can put off until tomorrow, right?  Now just take it easy and have a great Saturday evening, you hear?

How Do You Find a Subject.

How do you all find a subject to write about?  I usually can think of something by the time my computer gets fired up.  I usually think of all kinds of great subjects at night laying in bed just before I fall asleep. . . and of course, by morning, I can't remember even one of them.  Such is the case today.  I have read all the new postings of the blogs that I follow, had breakfast, and am sipping a good, strong cup of coffee.

Yesterday, we needed groceries and supplies and went to town.  Just before the entrance of Walmart, the needle on my temperature gauge started going up and before I could get turned in and parked, the alarm went off.  We didn't purchase any food items.  I just bought a couple of gallons of water and a couple of gallons of coolant.  My wife and I then walked around in the store to let the Jeep cool off.  When I got back, I started the engine and filled up the coolant reservoir with water.  The temp gauge went down to normal and stayed that way the whole way home.  No problems at all.  Before I go anywhere this morning, I will check the fluid level first.

OK, wish me luck.  Off to Wall-Mart again.  I will let you know when I get back if I had any more over-heating problems.  Until then, you all have a great day, you hear?
