African Dust

African dust is about to hit the Gulf Coast of Texas.  And yes, I live near the coast about 30 miles north of Houston.  This isn't the first time that this has happened since I lived here, but since I am already suffering from a cough, that dust is sure not a welcome visitor.

These are two satellite pictures that show the dust blowing off the African continent and heading our way.  I saw pictures like this on the TV news and I got these pictures off the internet.  I can not guarantee that they are of the current dust problem or a prior one.  This has happened before many times and it will happen again.

You can tell the difference between the dust and the clouds.  The dust is brown and the clouds are white.  When it gets here, I think I will stay inside until it passes.  Hope your skies are blue today and not brown.  Either way, please have a great day, you hear?

Corrections:  The dust got here a couple of weeks ago.  I guess that is why I have been coughing for quite awhile.

    1. Once it gets up in the air, it can travel in the trade winds, etc.

  3. The scary thing is that as parts of our continent get drier, we will start sending dust up into the atmosphere. Another Dust Bowl!

    1. Yep and since high altitude winds blow from east to west, it will all end up in your state of California (grin)

    1. You don't have to tell me twice. Any excuse to stay in out of the heat will work.

  5. I lived in Huntsville, AL for about 5 years back in the mid 70's. One of the things we would get every summer were the African dust clouds blowing. There was a haze over everything till it passed.

  9. It's too wet up here by the Red River to have dust. We had over 5 inches of rain yesterday. It will have to come in as mud I guess.
