Computer Problems

My computer is having problems.  Internet Explorer will not work.  The program does not always come up and when it does it crashes.  Therefore I can not get on the internet with my computer.  The internet is working  because I can still send and receive email, so it is my Internet Explorer program that is the problem.

May be off line for awhile.  Have other important things to work on first.  Maybe I should just shoot it and have a new one built, but then look at all the info that would be lost.  Yes, I do back up, but not real often and only files.  Can always reload the programs.

Be back when I can. . .

  2. IE isn't the vile monster it used to be back in V6, but it's still the worse of the bunch. I echo Ben's suggestions to use firefox. It's a small quick download and in lightyears ahead of IE.

  4. Explorer is the next best thing to a computer virus if you can't afford a real one. I couldn't stand the continual crashing so I switched to Chome.

You can import all your favorites to Chrome so you won't loose them. Hopefully you have them saved in a Flash Drive or something.

  5. Firefox here with free AVG download for a anti-virus scanner. I have always thought IE starts virus's to sell you Norton anti-virus.

  6. OK, I got to chime back in. Personally Chrome isn't much better IMHO than IE. copy and paste IF you can get IE stay running long enough. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ Then once you got it loaded,,set it to be the default browser.

Maybe have to download it from another computer and stick it on some soft of storage device, CD, zip drive, what ever. And then put it on your screwed up computer

  7. I have 4 computers that will boot up but all in various stages of decline. My main PC is going on seven years of hard usage. I have used linux on it since '05. It came with Windows XP but by the end of '05 that was history. Now it is refusing to upgrade to later versions of the Linux I use and just generally acting flaky. Sort of like its operator. I figure 5 years is a good run and I going on 7 and it still works so I figure it doesn't owe me anything. For a change I'm going to set up a new one before the old one goes tits up. I ordered it this morning and I'm already getting antsy for it to get here.

  8. I agree with most other commenters. Use Firefox, and you will NEVER want to go back to IE again. I haven't tried Chrome, but it's a Google product, isn't it? Firefox has been around a lot longer than Chrome, and works great!
