Well, here I go again just wondering about things. I am probably as old or older than all the bloggers that I follow. Even Old Ben is younger than I am. So, it didn’t seem that long since I was young man, where did all the time go? Wouldn’t it be nice if all those occasions when a person is bored, he could save that lost time for when he really needs it? Oh, just a wondering.
I used to hear people say that the further south you go, the slower people move and do things. Now that can’t be right, I wonder how that story ever got started. You see, the closer you get to the equator, the larger the earth’s diameter is. At the equator the mean diameter is 7930 miles which makes the circumference 24,913 miles. It takes 24 hours for the earth to rotate one time, you know, a full day. Therefore, people at the equator are moving at 1000 mph even when they are standing still. Now, people up north, lets say New York or Oregon are moving a lot slower and if you where standing at the north pole, it would take the full 24 hours just to rotate you one time.
Another thing, it is warmer at the equator and everyone knows that molecules speed up when heated. So, I want all my friends and relatives up there in Pennsylvania to know that when I am just sitting here holding my fishing pole and trying real hard to stay awake, I am moving much faster than you are!!! Now, I don’t feel so bad about not doing anything. . .
Another thing I was a wondering about, why does time go so much faster when we get older? Ok, while I was a sittin’ with my fishin’ pole a doing nothing I got it all figured out. You see, when you are a youngen, your fresh young mind is running at a very high speed and the world around you appears to be going so very slow, but when you get to be as old as me your brain just slows down and it looks to you like everything around you (time) is going so much faster.
Actually, I must admit I wasn’t the first to come up with this explanation. Some doctor or scientist or someone had already discovered it, I found out. That is my problem; I am never the first one to discover something, like when I go prospecting. Discovering the gold in someone else’s hand or pan does not count.
Have a wonderful Holiday. Enjoy it, it will be over in a blink of an eye. (Not if you’re younger than I am.)
Hey!!! Pour another cup and sit down!! Your thinking too much.!!! :-0
ReplyDeleteAnd for Gods and Texas sake,,quit telling those people in Pennsylvania how good we got it. We got enough dammed Yankees down here already screwing it up ...
When I lived in Pennsylvania, I wore cowboy boots and a cowboy hat and drove a 4x4. I think I fit in pretty good down here. I liked hunting, fishing, BBQ and Lone Star Beer. Of course I have changed some, haven't had a drink of alcohol for going on 30 years or so.
ReplyDeleteI like your apology of why southerners are so slow. Or should I say fast? Now I'm confused. Where the hell do you come up with some this stuff?
ReplyDeleteI read a lot when I am sitting on the pot. . .
ReplyDeleteDizz I was born a 11 days after they killed Bonnie and Clyde so I wonder if you are older than dirt?
ReplyDeleteOK Ted, you are about 8 1/2 years older than I am. Sorry I mis-stated, but I did say "probably". (grin) Actually, I feel about 10 years older than I am.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of when I was studying Physics in high school. I wondered about black holes, and in class, burst out when the teacher asked "What do you think is on the other side?" I said "It's all inverse. Space is white and the stars are black"
ReplyDeleteEveryone laughed at me.
Last year, Stephen Hawkins suggested the same thing, and all his fans hailed him a genius.
I said it first. And I said it when I was 16. He got a notable prize, I get laughed at. Sums up my life to me... funny.
Hey Pipsqeek, thanks for stopping by. You were just ahead of your time and you were not crippled. I say, if you go around the black hole, it will look the same from the other side. If you go through it, as you approach the event horizon, time slows down and may stop, so I can't say for sure. :-0
ReplyDeletelol, pip you too?
ReplyDeleteHowdy Nick, Hey, what does "pip" mean? Is "lol" lots of love or lots of laughs?
