My wife purchased 7 hand stitched old quilt tops that cost five dollars for all seven. They looked to be for a Queen or King size bed, because they cover the top of our King size bed. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I don't feel like writing a thousand words to explain each one so I will just post some pictures of a few of them:

I can't believe someone parted with those quilt tops, and for that price! I so treasure the one my grandmother gave me.

I totally agree with TroubleNtex.... what treasures those quilt tops are. I'm guessing they are pieced by hand (not sewing machine).... I recognize some of the patterns... double wedding ring, Texas star, flower basket... the same kind my mom made many years ago. Will your wife finish them?
ReplyDeleteTrouble, the fellow that she purchased them from is a retired executive who's new hobby is cleaning out old houses and storage units. You just never know what he will show up with and he doesn't want to take anything back home with him, so he prices things to sell.

I think number 2 is the most important on gun safety but I like number 1 the best. Wow all those quilt tops for $5, what a bargain. They are sure lovely.

The quilt tops sure are pretty. I recognized all but only remember the name of the Double Wedding Ring.
ReplyDeleteThere used to be a quilting society in Conroe, I have had quilts appraised by them. One of the fabric stores could probably tell you how to get in touch with them. You might find out that you bought some real treasures.

ReplyDeletePenny, My wife says no matter what anyone tells her, she thinks she found a big treasure in them. They sure are pretty and she bought a lot more than the ones I showed. She bought some more today, too.

ReplyDeleteYou really DID get some bargains today, no matter what you paid for your treasure. The tops are lovely, and I'm sure your wife knows that there are ladies who just love the quilting part and will put the tops on and quilt them for her. Last time I heard, it was going at a pretty reasonable price, maybe $25+ each. Your local shop can give her some ideas, so she can have more time for other pursuits, like keeping up with you! When are you and big brother Hermit going to get together for some fishing?
MsB, he wanted to to give it to me, but I gave hime a copule of bucks. Yep, she really did.
