Wandering out to get some diesel.

My son came up for a visit yesterday and we had a great conversation.  I mentioned that he has never had a ride in our last motorhome and we have had it for a year and half or so.  I then suggested that since it could use some fuel, let's take it for a ride and get some diesel.  That idea went over well and I disconected the electric, the wife locked the door on the house, and my son walked up to open the gate.  My wife and I got into the RV and we drove it up the driveway, through the gate, and picked up our son.  Then I headed down to get some fuel.  That hundred gallon tank was pretty thirsty.  I have been going to fill it up for quite some time because I don't like the condensation to build up in it.  Normally I stop and fill it up just before I get home from a trip.  I don't know why I didn't do that the last time out.

Anyway, we drove over to Cleveland, TX and picked up 59 south.  Got off at the Splendora exit and I pulled over and told him he could drive it back home to Cut & Shoot.  I think that made his day, since he kept saying that it was "nice, real nice".  My rig only weighs 29,500 pounds loaded, but since he has a commercial truck driving license, I was impressed that he thought driving it was "nice".  This was the first time he drove anything with the wheels so far behind the driver's seat, but he did a perfect job and even told me a few things about it that I didn't know.  He got it back home and parked.  It was a good day.  Any day out in the rv is a good day for me.  That was the first time since I purchased it that I got to ride in right seat.  I told him I would hire him as our driver, but he has really good job and I know that my "dollar a day and found "  would not be sufficient (grin).  Now, you all have yourselves a great day, you hear?

  3. Trouble, me too, but I got these doctor appointments. I am ready, ready, ready, but. . . .

The Odd Essay, Yes and Yes!! I have filled it up when diesel was over four bucks a gallon but it is a little under that now.

  4. I didn't have too much trouble pulling a 34' 5th wheel, but doubt if I could do it now. Never did drive a Class C or Class A. Can't teach an old dog new tricks, well, most of the time.

  5. Glad you got to go for a drive. As beautiful as your rig is I would think anyone would fall in love with it.

Hope you can take it on the road soon before the snakes come out in Terlingua.

  6. Gypsy, my rv is a little over 38 feet long and there are two things you have to think about; the long wheel base when making turns and the tail swing, the part behind the rear wheels. And of course the height, I hit a lot of tree branches. Other than that, it is easier to drive than a car.

MsB, As soon as I get this doctor stuff out of the way we will be heading out. I like snakes but worry about the pups.

  7. Howdy Dizzy-Dick,

This brings back some fond memories of my days driving through the Rocky mountains in an RV from Jasper to Banff.

We know y'all over there are having high fuel prices. Still, we would love those prices. It takes about ten pounds or fifteen American dollars to fill up my car in England to empty. Have a good day, y'all :)

I'm outta' here and wishing you some good health news.

    Gary

  8. I wouldn't want to pay that fuel bill for sure. However, I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

  9. Sure am hoping that you get all that doctoring business out of the way, and in the rearview mirrors. The future lies in front of us! I better get busy, now. Got some stuff to do. Thanks for the welcome aboard.

  10. Klahanie, I understood that fuel prices over your way have always been higher than over here in the "colonies", but I could be wrong. We have been spoiled but I think the honeymoon is over. Fuel prices keep going up and down but I think it is still a bargain. Diesel has dropped in price, at least at our local fuel station.

Jill, I complain more about not burning the fuel on a trip than I do about buying it (grin). That big ole Caterpillar engine pushes us along at what ever speed we want to travel.

  12. Glad you got the rig out. I had to buy diesel to get back home and wasn't too happy with the price increase.
