Wondering About My First Blog.

I got wondering about my first blog and so I went back and looked at it.  It was published on July 16, 2010 and I got started because Ben Woods kept prodding me to do so.  I had been reading his blog for awhile and he kept on me to start one for myself, which I did.  Do any of you remember Ben's blog, "An Older Texan Remembers"?  I still miss old Ben.  Here is the picture he took to put on his blog:

We did get up to visit him one time.  This next picture is of Windy Bob (on left), me (center) and Ben (in green vest):

Yep, that was way back when I had the class-C motorhome.

Here is another picture with Windy Bob, Ben, and my wife.  His house is in the background:

OK, Ben was responsible for me starting, but do you have any idea who was the first one to comment on my blog posting?  It was Hermit Jim
I am sure most of you have read his very interesting, and informative blog.  If you haven't, you should.  His blog is Coffee with the Hermit and can be found here: http://hermitjim.blogspot.com/

By the way, my first blog was:

Now, you all have a great day, you hear?

  1. Yep, I found y'all (or you found me...) about that time. I started my blogging on LiveJournal, and went back and copied off those entries so I'd have them. Moved over here because I had to pay $25/year to keep their advertising off the blog. Ben would hurt my feelings every once in awhile by being a bit blunt, but I enjoyed his blog. It was a sad day when I took him off my sidebar.

    1. Ben was blunt, but that was one of the things I liked about him, and his dry sense of humor, too.

  2. I'm a real newbie compared to most folks... started in February, 2012.... met up with Donna and Dennis Cave at Falcon Lake... I'd been reading a lot of blogs back then but was too timid to comment and just didn't think I could write my own. WoooHooo.... I've sure gotten wordy since then. I, too, read Ben's blog, but think he passed on shortly after. I feel like a newbie, but at the same time see that several of my favorites have "retired" their blogs. Another favorite "commenter" was Butterbean (James Carpenter) who didn't have a blog (or at least I don't think so), but would comment all the time. I was glad that I was able to provide him with photos of his ancestors buried near here (in Granbury) before he passed on. What a great world this blogging thing is... heck.. y'all are much more faithful readers than my own family ;-)

    1. Blog writers and their commenters seem to become great friends even though most of them have not met each other. I have tried to meet as many as were possible. I read the Old Fool also until his passing. The ones that leave you up in the air are the ones that just seem to disappear. I guess, at my age, I should make arrangements for someone to let you all know if I pass.

    1. Most of the time, if you don't have too many regrets. I always enjoyed ole Ben and was glad we got to communicate and visit as often as we did. He was so excited; just bought a Casita travel trailer and was planning some trips. He never got to go.

  4. I just don't understand how time seems to fly by so swiftly. I've only been blogging half as long as you, but even so, how did those years go by so fast?

    1. "Time flies when you are having fun." That is the truth and also, I am getting to that age when I get up in the morning and turn around three days go by. . .

    1. I have met a half dozen or so bloggers in person, and we all have things to talk about. Love meeting other bloggers. I tried to get in touch with you when I was in your area, but we didn't get connected. Maybe next time.
