Tried To Cut Grass.

With all the rain we have been having, the grass has really been growing.  I decided it had dried out enough to start cutting today.  I fired up the lawn tractor and drove it out to the front lot to start cutting out there.  I had to take it real slow to get the high grass cut and then I heard clank and the mower deck quit cutting.  I shut it off and took a look and it had thrown the long belt that wrapped around all the pulleys that drove the multiple blades and it also wrapped around some idling pulleys and of course the drive pulley.

I drove it back to the storage shed where I keep it when it is not in use but just parked outside in the sunlight.  Went and got the jack out of my Jeep and jacked the front of the tractor up so as to get the most clearance between the bottom of the tractor and the top of the deck.  I tried to get that long square belt back on all the pulleys but ended up with more belt than pulleys.  I couldn't see anyplace where a pulley was missing.  By that time I was getting over heated and my back was hurting from bending over trying to see under the tractor, so I put it back in the shed, shut the doors, and went back into house to suck up some of that AC.  I did put the jack back into the Jeep in the place where it should be.  I may look at it again tomorrow if it don't rain. . . or not.  Now, you all have a great day, you hear?

  1. Hope you can get it fixed before the grass gets so long you need a threshing machine.

    1. Sounds like a plan. Will you supply enough of that stuff to do my 12 acres and then come and help me spread it? Will it harm the aquatic life in my ponds?

    2. Don't put it in the ponds. It will be cheaper than all the grass equipment and work.

    3. I would need a tank truck full of it to cover my place. Anyway, eventually, it would get into my ponds because all of my place drains into my two ponds.

  3. Hope your son can help you fix it or if all else fails hire someone to do it. I do not envy you one bit.

  5. I think you should hire someone to fix it if you can't wait for your son to get back. I hope he has a great time at the Rally! I've heard so much about it and seen the motorcycles on the roads going to and coming from it. Back to your original problem, get someone else to fix it. It's not worth messing with back problems or worse.

    1. Maybe I just need to get a herd of goats. I will not go out in this hot sun, but maybe this evening I may take another look at my little John Deere tractor.

  6. I guess if nothing else you can just enjoy all the wildflowers (all right.. weeds) that will bloom and all the insects and wildlife that will like your high grass. Personally, I think well manicured lawns are highly over-rated ;-)

    1. Oh yes, I love the weeds and/or wildflowers. Always looking for new ones popping up. There is some pretty flowers blooming now on vines wrapped around trees.
