Wondering About Garbage Pail Kids

Have you ever seen those trading cards featuring the Garbage Pail Kids?  We used to have some of them and they sure were gross.  I found a few on the internet to refresh your memory and maybe give you a giggle or two.

This first one reminds me of how I feel when I get a little cut on my finger. . . heck yes it hurts!!

How do you feel about hypodermic needles and shots and vaccinations, etc.?

You know, I have had a couple of doctors that I think actually tried to do this to me!!

Then there is this really, really gross gal called HEDDA:

Lost all my work.

Don't you love it when a plan comes together?  Well, the opposite happened to me.  I worked for hours getting stuff off the internet and writing and pasting it into Microsoft Word.  Got everything I wanted for a great and interesting (in my opinion) post today and then my battery died without any warning.  I lost everything and I am not going to try and find all that stuff again.  Maybe tomorrow and maybe never.  So, I am sorry for not posting an interesting blog today.  Anyway, I still want you all to have a great day

Backyard Wild Flowers

A few days ago I took this first picture of some wildflowers in my backyard.  I had trouble because the automatic focus on the camera kept wanting to focus on the leaves, but you can still see the what they look like:

Then today, I went back out in the back yard and there were a couple of new volunteers, so I got my camera and took a couple of pictures of them.  Yes, they are the same kind of flowers:

This time the camera focused on the flower and it showed the different colored flowers.  Pink in the center, circled by white flowers with yellow centers, and surrounded by bluish purple blooms with red centers.  Now there should be something there to please everybody.

This last picture is of two other blooms on a different plant in the same area in the fenced in back yard.  I think that they are quite beautiful and just love the beauty that Mother Nature gives us for free.  All we have to do is look and appreciate it.

There name is Lantana Camara or Lantana for short.  These grow all over my place and do help to brighten it up some.  Yes, I know I have posted about them before, but these are fresh, new pictures of them and this time they were in the dogs' yard along the fence.  Now you all have a great day, you hear?

Big Traffic Backup.

 Took a ride around today so that my wife could stop at a few yard sales.  On the way back home, we came up to the red light on the main highway and when it turned green we were about to make a left hand turn and head home.  A highway patrolman stopped us and then a few work trucks with sky buckets on them rushed in.  The operators in the buckets guided the hook on the bottom of the bucket to the line that crossed the road and began raising it.  Then big rigs pulling large extra long trailers with multiple wheels came into view.  They were loaded with large, rectangular units and were heading west on TX state highway 105.  I have no idea where they are going but they seem to move a lot of large things through this area:

There was a convoy of them.  I guess it is the best idea to move them in a group so not to disturb the traffic and traffic lights too often.  Here they are lined up waiting to get under the lights and the electric lines:

Not only did they have a truck (tractor) pulling them they also had one pushing them:

Well, that was the excitement for today, along with the yard sales.  She shops and I talk to whoever is running it.  That way we both get to do what we like to do best;  shopping for her and talking for me.  Not a bad way to spend a Friday morning.  Now, you all have a great day, you hear?

A Bad Spider.

There it was, between my wife and my male dog.  Between the two of them it didn't stand a chance.  My wife administered the coup de grace and I was elected to act as the funeral director.  It was my job to pick up the dead body, transport it to a the funeral home for showing (the porch banister) and then later on to be disposed of.  

They were a brave pair, my wife and dog.  That was a bad, bad spider.  It was bad because it was in my wife's kitchen and it was bad because it was quite poisonous.  It was a brown recluse, I think.  Here is a picture of what one should look like when alive:

This next picture came off the internet and I think it resembles the picture above.  See the stripe on their heads?  This is not a brown recluse, but rather, it is a wolf spider:

The following pictures are three more shots I took holding it at different angles.  Sorry, but the last two are out of focus.

 

I am not sure what kind of spider this was.  If anyone can tell me, I would appreciate it.  I would really like to know if it is or isn't wolf spider

There are a few spiders who's bites can be real dangerous.  Here are the top four most poisonous spiders in North America.
    1.   -   Recluse Spiders (like the Brown Recluse)
    2.   -   Widows  (Like the Black Widow)
    3.   -   Hobo Spiders  (They are mostly found on the west coast.)
    4    -   Yellow Sac Spiders, Black-footed Spider  (They are like the Brown Recluse Spiders in that they prefer to live your homes.)

I would say that most spider bites happen in the home.  A lot of spiders like to hide in your bed, but they can be found anywhere at most anytime.  So be careful not to get bit and have a great day, you hear?

African Dust

African dust is about to hit the Gulf Coast of Texas.  And yes, I live near the coast about 30 miles north of Houston.  This isn't the first time that this has happened since I lived here, but since I am already suffering from a cough, that dust is sure not a welcome visitor.

These are two satellite pictures that show the dust blowing off the African continent and heading our way.  I saw pictures like this on the TV news and I got these pictures off the internet.  I can not guarantee that they are of the current dust problem or a prior one.  This has happened before many times and it will happen again.  

You can tell the difference between the dust and the clouds.  The dust is brown and the clouds are white.  When it gets here, I think I will stay inside until it passes.  Hope your skies are blue today and not brown.  Either way, please have a great day, you hear?

Corrections:  The dust got here a couple of weeks ago.  I guess that is why I have been coughing for quite awhile.

A Wild and a Tame Flower.

There was a long vine with a very thin stem that was wound around some trees along my driveway.  This vine had some very pretty flowers on it.  This first picture is taken from the top of the flower:

It sure has an unique shape and color.  Kind of reminds me of a purple chicken wearing a white scarf.  I turned it over and took another picture of the back of it:

That was the wild flower for today.  The last couple of pictures are flowers from my wife's garden.  Something, an animal I assume, must have wanted to smell the flowers.  Anyway, something knocked them over and broke them off at the ground, so why not bring them in the house, put them in water and enjoy them?
