The first question that comes to mind is what was your first car? Mine was a 1955 Desoto similar to the one pictured below except mine was a four door sedan, but it was the same color:
I believe it had a hemi engine in it. It had an automatic transmission but only had a couple of gears, like low and high. Therefore, it was a little sluggish off the line, so to speak. I really liked that car.
I have had GMC, Chrysler, and Ford products and therefore their motors. I have told you before about my '57 Chevy convertible. I have had V-6, V-8, V-10, and even one to four cylinder engines on bikes. But, all through my life I have had only gasoline engines. Then I got my last RV. It has a Cat Diesel engine in it. Now, I must say, that engine really impresses me. My RV has a GVW of
26,600 and, therefore, need a big engine. I can set the cruise control for sixty mph and it will stay there, rock solid, on sixty up and down the hills and mountains, and that is towing my Jeep Liberty. Now they tell me that Caterpillar does not make engines for vehicles any more, just stationary engines. That is quite a loss to the new RV buyers.
What motor is in your RV or truck or car? Do you remember your first one? Bundle up, it is still COLD outside and have a great day, you hear?
My first engine was a Chevy in line 6 of 1960 vintage. My current engine is a 6.6 liter Duramax diesel with 238000 miles on it.
ReplyDeleteI have been told that my Cat should go a couple of million mile. Heck, that would take me quite a few lifetimes. Diesel engines can run a long time. You may have to put a new truck under your engine before you need a new engine.
DeleteOh Dick, I have no idea what motor I have, it's a 1992 Subaru Legacy-L wagon with on demand 4 wheel drive, if that makes a difference. My very first car was a 1965 Plymouth Fury convertible sort of a bronze color. Pretty sure it was a 6 cylinder but no idea of the motor. I mainly just put gas in them and drive them as long as I can. LOL! Typical woman!

DeleteA 57 4dr HT chevy. 2 tone green, fast. V8 with a 4 barrel, think maybe a 281.

DeleteMy first car was a 1955 Chevrolet... kind of a robin-egg blue. But all I've ever cared about is that when I turn the key on whatever I'm driving that the motor turns over and the car is capable of taking me wherever I want to go. The rest doesn't matter at all.

DeleteThe very first car I 'drove' was a 1935 (?) Chev Coupe with a Rumble Seat and wood spoke wheels. When I pushed in the clutch I slid down so far i could no longer see over the hood. I think the motor was a 80hp straight 6.
ReplyDeleteThe first car that I bought was a new 1968 Rambler American 2 door sedan with a 128hp straight 6. Many more after! Now have a Ford V10.
That Ford V-10 is a nice engine. Had one in my Class-C. I had it up and down the Rocky Mts. and even up to Pennsylvania. Always towing my Jeep, of course. I would get passed by big motor homes when going up mountains. I remember the mud guard had Newmar written on it. Now the one I have has Newmar on my rear mud guard. Back then, I would have never believed that I would have a Newmar Dutch Star.
