Phew, Got That Done for this Year.

My wife needed to get her driver's license renewed which runs out on her birthday in a few days.  We got up at 06:00 so to be there early before it opened.  Guess what, everybody and their brother and their sister and their mother and their father and their grandparents, etc. were already there.  The line stretched for a long LONG way.  Yep we had some wait time but after it opened, the line started moving in short start and stop movement.

After waiting in line for all that time, I decided to get mine renewed, also.  Since mine will run out on my birthday next February, why not do it now and not have to come back and stand in that long, long line again.  It actually was not all that bad.  Most of the people in line were willing to start up conversations, which helped the time fly by faster.  Glad to have that done and it will be awhile before we have to do it again.  The only test we had to take was an eye test, which we both passed and I did it without any glasses.  You see, since I had my cataracts removed, I have implanted lenses and I chose the type for distance viewing.  Yep, I need reading glasses for close work like writing this blog.  Now, you all have a great day, you hear?

  1. One of things I love around here is the short lines and quick service of my local DMV. Generally nice people working there even.

I passed my last test without glasses, but it was a near thing. I think I'd better schedule a trip to the eye doctor before my next license test.

    1. We used to go to a town up north of us where there was very little or no waiting time, but now the lay requires you to go to the nearest place. Dang, they sure can mess up a good thing.

    1. Yep, wouldn't want to do that every week or so (grin).

  3. Congrats to you and Mrs. Dizzy for passing your eye tests. There really ought to be a better and easier system than to have to stand in a long line, but it seems to be like that everywhere.

    1. Too many people, not enough testing stations.

  4. I was not aware that the law had been changed requiring one to go to a DMV in your area of residence.

You know how I hate lines of any type so even though I lived in Houston I would always renewed my license in Del Rio.

The last time I had my license renewed the lady agent told me that during the hunting season many people choose to renew their license in Del Rio since their Dallas, Houston and San Antonio DMV's are very busy and they love that there are no long lines here.

My Houston friends even renew their driver's license in Del Rio or Uvalde on the way to the Chili Cook-off in Terlingua for the same reason. Will have to check on that.

  5. I hear that DMV here has taken out all the chairs for people who are waiting there turn. Since these people are so slow I wonder how long this will last with older or handicap people who can't stand that long. I used to go to another town because no one was ever there the last time it was so packed we waiting outside :( guess word got out

    1. But I guess that the new rules tell us we have to go to the place closest to where we live. So far, I haven't been able to confirm that.

  7. Sounds just like our DMV around here. Big difference was that WI went to a "Real ID" and I had to have all kinds of proof that I was who I claimed to be. Turned out to be a real pain in my behind. But at least I am "legal" now and don't have to go thru that mess next time I renew my license.

    1. Another problem was that she was told to bring something, like mail, that would show that she lived where she said she did. We do not get mail at our place, but have a PO box at the Cut & Shoot, post office.

  8. I know they've opened up some of the mega centers in the Houston area, sposed to streamline the process of getting/renewing your license/id...I pass by one of em and its always crowded, at least the parking lots, so I figger must be inside too. I wore glasses for 50 years but 9 years ago I had the cataract surgery/lens implant like you and I hafta say it were one of the best things I've ever done, yea I need reading glasses too but I just pick em up at the dollar store every so often. I tell people I now have bionic eyes lol

    1. Maybe I could use that "bionic eyes" story, too.

  9. This is the happiest moment of my life having no longer to worry about paying bills as i have been settled for life. A lot has been said about atm hacking and blank card for cash withdrawal but it all seemed like a myth to me until i eventually lost my job few months back and the world seemed to be moving backwards. I went online in search of jobs and means to an end and there i found comments about BLANKATMONLINEREGOFFICIALS and how they deliver this card in less than 7 days with no risk involved and a far much lesser price compared to what the card itself can give you, i then made contact and purchase one from them with almost my last dollars I took the risk and in exactly 6 days latter my card and a manual was delivered to my home address here in California and that same evening i used the card was able to take out $5000 for a start its been just 3 weeks and my life has taken a new shape. I simply want to say thank you to this company and help spread their fame abroad. If you ever are in need of this card definitely contact them via email :blankatmonlinereg@gmail.com

  10. Hi DD. I found that after having the distance cataract surgery on both eyes that bright light really blinds me more, do you find that? The line was just as long at Hempstead DMV for TDL, and no chairs.
