Backyard Mystery.

This morning I noticed something different in the dogs' fenced in back yard.  It was near our bird feeders.  Since I have no idea what it is, I hope someone can tell me.  Here is the first of two pictures that I took:

There is some of that white stuff spread near the foreground and a concentrated round pile of it in the top center of the photo.  That pole you see is what holds my birdfeeder and the light brown stuff on the ground is birdseed.

Now, here is a closer view of the round pile at the top of the first picture.  It is little white balls a little bigger than the grains of bird feed:

Maybe it is mold growing around each individual grain of bird seed, but why wouldn't the dark sunflower seeds have any growing on them or maybe something ate a bunch of it and threw it all up?  We have had a lot of rain and everything is damp outside and we are supposed to have a lot more coming.  Maybe I should get some water wings, what do you think?  Now I hope you all are having a great day.

  1. Looks like molded bird seed but your pic isn't too good.
With all that seed on the ground you must be feeding the rats and mice at night.

    1. The birds are very sloppy eaters, and my son and his wife raise all sorts of animals from rabbits to chickens and ducks, to goats, etc. Yep, there has to be some fat rats around here but the squirrels seem to eat the most.

  2. hmm moldy birdseed maybe? Hard to tell, keep the ground animals fed anyway.

    1. I have seen moldy birdseed before and it didn't look exactly like this. That is why I said it was a mystery to me.

  3. I almost feel like I have seen this before but with CRS who knows. But I sure wouldn't let the dogs near it. Shovel it up and away from them.

    1. That is a good idea, but they don't seem to be attracted to it. But since we have been having a lot of rain, they don't stay out any longer than they have to.

  4. It really does look like mold; but then I don't see too clearly these days. It also looks like "puke" to me. I'd get rid of it and keep the dogs away from it. Let us know if you ever figure it out.

    1. It could be, but I am going to blame it on aliens (grin).

  5. I have no idea what it might be.

How are you fairing with the rain, are your roads passable? Please do not go out unless you absolutely need to. Take care.

    1. It is not raining right now but we sure had more than our fair share of rain. All the water runs away from my home and into my ponds and swamp. If they overflow, it runs out the back of my property. My feet are still dry, but maybe that is because I have not gone outside (grin).
