Wondering When I Will Get it all Cut.

Got all the grass cut that I could on the yard tractor.  The job gets done real fast when riding around on it.  The front lot is mostly wide open and can be cut quite quickly but the yard in front of my house is full of trees and I almost get dizzy going in circles around all those trees.  Now, the back yard and the dog's yard still needs cut and I can't get the tractor back there.  So, I have to use my rotary walk behind small mower.  That is the plan but first, if I remember correctly, I have to find out why the last time I tried to use it, it refused to run.  It would start and immediately die.  If I can't get it running, I guess I will see if my weed eater will work.  It is small and electric, so I will have to find a couple of long extension cords.

OK, I guess I have put the work off long enough.  So, while I am working, you all have a great day, you hear?

Wondering How Many Have Been on TV & Edison?

I was just wondering how many of you have ever been on TV.  I read a statistic that stated that "One in every 4 Americans has appeared on television!"  So, there are more than 4 bloggers out there and that would mean that one of them has appeared on TV.  OK, I must admit that I was on TV once that I know of.  I was at one of the G.P.A.A's outings (Gold Prospectors of America Association) at Stanton, Arizona, and was interviewed by Tom Massie.  Tom is a great guy and I am not just saying that because he is bigger than I am.  Here is a picture of my wife and I with Tom:

This was taken back in 2008.  To give you an idea how big he is, I am 5'-11" tall.  I went to a couple of their outing in Arizona and I don't remember which time I was interviewed.

I often wondered what gave Thomas Edison the inspiration to invent the light bulb.  I never knew the reason until I was researching something else and came across the fact that Edison was afraid of the dark!  So now it makes sense. . . that is why he invented the light bulb.  Right?

Now you all have bright and happy and great day, today, you hear?

Wondering About a Special Army.

There are a lot of armies in this world.  Almost every country has one, some big and some small.  As far as recorded history goes back, there have been armies.  You have to have an army to fight a war.  I wonder what the world would be like if no country had an army?  I found this picture of a marching army.  I don't know what country they are from or what year it was taken.  It doesn't look like it is a recent picture:

I found this next picture  In this army there are both men and women:

I can't forget the ancient Chinese clay army recently discovered and unearthed:

Most armies are designed to fight and destroy.  In cases of national disaster, they can also be used to help in the emergency, protect and police the area, and help get things back to normal.  But, there is one army that was started on this date in 1865 in England (and still headquartered there) that is a peaceful army and it was formed, not to destroy, but to save, build up, and offer assistance in times of need.  This is the best army in the world.  It is the Salvation Army:

I have heard from past soldiers (some who served as far back as the 2nd World War) that they really appreciated what the Salvation Army did to help and that they did much, much more than the red cross.  I can not say myself which one is better but I have seen natural disasters and the Salvation Army was the first on the site.  So, the next time you see one of these red buckets, donate!!

No, I have no involvement with the organization, other than dropping some money into the red bucket a few times.  I sure hope none of you have any need for the Salvation Army but I do hope you all have a great day, you hear?

Wondering About a Big Bang for the 4th.

Happy 4th of July, you all!!

Please don't get too big a bang out of the day.

Nature puts on the largest display and the biggest bangs (if you could hear sounds in space).  Instead of sound waves, there would be shock waves.

One of the largest and brightest explosions are the Type 1a supernovae.  Since that type of explosion is always the same brightness, astronomers use them as the mile posts of the universe.

And one more example of an exploding star:

Then came along one that was way brighter than the rest.  Not only did it surprise the astronomers but it also gave them a scare.  If this was so, then all the previous work done to measure distances in the universe based on this type of supernova would be wrong and they would have to find something else to help measure the vast distances.

So why is this "candle" burning brighter than all the rest?  Well, later on it was discovered that it really wasn't brighter but it was magnified by a gravitational lens.  A gravitational lens is created by a large object (a star or our sun) or a grouping of objects (a galaxy) who's gravity is strong enough to bend the light that is passing by.  So that meant that all is well in the astronomy business and this was not the upset that it was first thought to be.  One should never jump to conclusions until all the facts are known.  All the sciences try to always make sure what they discover is correct and in cases that they don't, things get out of hand.

Have a great holiday, you hear?

Wondering, what is the difference between a lawyer and an attorney?

I woke up this morning wondering what the difference is between a lawyer and an attorney.  I always thought that they were the same thing, like car and automobile.  Yes, in the United States, I believe that there is no difference in the title of lawyer or attorney-at-law.  They both do the same things as far as the field of law goes.  Seems pretty simple to me, but in England, they have a lot more choices; along with attorney and lawyer, there are barristers and solicitors, etc.  I figure the best way to get through life is to try to avoid them.

They do come in handy for a lot of things.  On the top of the list is wills.  If you find an attorney to do your will, take my father-in-law's advice to make sure he is a lot younger than you are so that there is a good chance he will out live you.  You know he has to be around to execute the will.  If I ever get in trouble or get sued and need a lawyer, I think I would want Matlock:

Or Perry Mason:

I don't think they have ever lost a case.  Oh yes, that proves that it is all fiction.  Now, I hope you never need a lawyer and make sure you all have a great day, you hear?

Wondering About Yesterday's Project.

Remember my blog posting back on June 27th about getting a new floor in the room that had been my office:
http://dizzydick.blogspot.com/2014/06/wondering-when-things-will-get-back-to.html#comment-form

We got in touch with the two guys that did all the work on that room because we were impressed how good they were at their job and how hard they worked.  These were the same guys who worked on my plumbing.  Anyway, we asked them to come back and put up a storage building I had purchased a couple of years ago.  This was not a "tin" building and needed two people to put it together.  Here is a picture I took while they were working:

Now, I will have a better place to keep my garden tractor.  For the last couple of years, it has been sitting out beside my driveway covered with a tarp.  The red thing behind the new building is my canoe.  No, it will not fit in the building.

On another subject, I noticed on one of my Mimosa trees that there were two very late bloomers.  The tree bloomed in all its glory back in the Spring time, see all the seed pods?  But these two blooms in the middle of the picture just now showed up.  Yep, for sure, they are late bloomers:

I guess they wanted to be in bloom for the 4th of July.  Remember, you can click on a picture to enlarge them.  Now, you all have a great day today, you hear?

No blog posting today.  Aren't you glad you don't have to read my boring blog?  Try to have a great day anyway, you hear?
