I am wondering about my memory.  Why. . . I forgot. . . just kidding, it is not quite that bad, yet.  I have no trouble remembering things from 65 years ago, it is my short term memory that seems to be not as good as it used to be, that is, if I remember correctly.  So then I wondered just how do we remember things?

I keep telling everyone that my mind is like a computer hard-drive, because it only has so much space and if I put more into it, something has to get erased.  Actually, I think the human brain is capable of much more than we think if only we knew how to use it to its fullest.

Another thing I wonder about is if what we remember is actually accurate?  I read somewhere that every time we recall a memory, we actually rewrite it in our minds and that "rewrite" isn't always exactly the same as the original.  I always thought that if I kept recalling something that it would make me remember it longer.  And I think it does, but maybe it does change it ever so slightly I don't realize.  But, if I rewrite it a little different each time, how the heck would I know it isn't accurate each time I remember it.  I am starting to get dizzy, it isn't good for us old guys to think real hard.  Don't want to rupture brain cells, what is left of them.  So, you all just have yourselves a great day today, you hear?

Wondering about a fellow's past.

Some people you meet seem ordinary.  That is not necessarily the truth.  For example, we have been going to the local flea market for years and have become friends with a lot of the vendors.  Some have even been to our place and visa versa.  One of them, who we thought we knew well, turned out to have a past a lot different than what he is doing now.  At his tables at the flea market, he is always playing music and sometimes he uses his rich deep bass voice to sing along with the recorded music.  At times, he sells karaoke units and sings along with them.  And guess what, he is even older than I am!!

I just found out last weekend that when he was young, he had formed a quartet and they backed up a lot of singers who where recording records in a studio in Houston, either for demos or for actual publication.  One of those singers that his group backed up on some recordings was Kenny Rodgers.  The only time that I ever sang with a super star was in my car with the radio playing.  Now he has his voice on some of Kenny's recordings.  Maybe our friend is on one of your Kenny Rodgers recordings?  Remember back on one of my old blogs when I told you about a fellow who also sets up at this flea market who used to be the pilot of the Good Year blimp?  It is surprising the interesting people you meet at our local flea market.  The sun is shining and it is a another beautiful morning here, and I hope you all will have a great day today, you hear?

Wondering about the Jungle on the porch.

 I thought that we could go on a safari this morning.  Don't have to go too far around here, just out on the back porch.  My wife has a jungle growing out there.  Don't believe me, well take a look:

These bright red flowers do brighten up an early Spring day:

They are called Kalanchoe.  My wife has raised them for years and they grow babies on their leaves.  If a leaf falls off (or just pull one off), lay it on a damp paper towel or on potting soil, it will spring baby plants along the leaf.  Here is another view:

Wondering about the pretty and the ugly.

On my way to the hematologist's yesterday, I was stopped at a red light just before I entered I-45.  First of all, I want to apologize for the sun reflecting off my side window.  I should have put it down put the light changed and I had to snap a quick picture hoping I would get some of what I wanted.  What I was trying to show you was the pretty wild flowers with the garbage next to them.  You know the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Oh yea, that was a Clint Eastwood movie.  The paper cup and the piece of paper really do not add to the beauty, so what else is left?  Yep, the bad and the ugly.

 

I got to the medical facility in the Woodlands (or was it Shenandoah? They both seem to run together) a wee bit early and filled out the reams of paperwork.  My appointment was for 14:30, we arrived at 14:00 and got to go into the examination room after 15:00 and had to wait there for quite a spell.  Finally, the doc came in and he asked some questions and gave me a quick once over and sent me down the hall where they about drained my body of blood.  It took awhile for me to fill up the ten (yes, I said 10) tubes of blood.  The vampire in the closet must have been very, very hungry.  To put the icing on the cake, when we checked out they wouldn't take my American Express card, I paid cash for the part I owed and then they couldn't make change when I offered them a hundred dollar bill.  OK, I dug around and came up with enough twenties to cover the bill and would only require a couple of bucks and some change back in return.  They took it and came back and said thy still couldn't make change.  So, my wife dug around and between her and my change purse, we were able to pay the bill.  This has happened to us before in the past.  Why do doctors not expect cash payments?  And even worse, why are they not prepared for such payments?  I don't mind getting stuck with needles but I do hate inefficiency, especially at a professional office.  Maybe from now on I should show up an hour late and without any money.

I was sure glad to get back home to my pups and they were sure glad to see my wife and I.  They are the best doctors in the whole world, they always make me feel great.  Actually, I really feel great and told the doc that.  I don't think that is what they like to hear.  Now, you all have a great day today and stay well and away from doctors, you hear? 

Wondering, is anyone feeling down today?

Are you feeling down today?  Well, let me sink you further down by giving you something more to worry about.  There have been several mass extinction during the history of life on earth.  Scientists tell us that way, way back about 250 million years ago, about 80 percent of all life on earth ended.  Now, I would say that that was really an apocalypse, wouldn't you say?  This was caused by global warming (where was Al Gore when you needed him?) when volcanic eruptions occurred in Siberia.  Siberian rock is very high in carbon, so the volcano dumped tons and tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Then again 65 million years ago, another apocalypse!!  An asteroid crashed into earth, hitting an area rich in sulfur which caused acid rain and global cooling, much to the demise of the dinosaurs.  Today, carbon dioxide levels are the highest they have been for over 800,000 years.  Something has to give!!  Move over dinosaurs, here we come. . .

How about something worse, like the earth passing through a cloud of dust?  They say that that may happen once every billion years.  You see, the earth doesn't just speed around the sun once a year, but our solar system is located in an arm of our galaxy which spins around in space as it moves where ever it is headed to and we could pass through a cloud of gas that would block a significant amount of our sunlight for maybe up to or over 200,000 years.

Isn't this an exciting place and time to be alive?  Now, I hope I have cheered you all up today who were feeling down so that you all could have yourselves a great day, you hear? 

Wondering; Did you miss me?

I hope you all didn't miss me yesterday.  No, I didn't die, not yet, anyway.  When a blogger who posts everyday and gets to be my age, and misses a day, some would think that something bad happened.  Well let me tell you, nothing bad happened.  I just sat here with a blank mind and a blank stare on my face with the laptop on my lap and I just couldn't think of a dang thing to say.  Now that is scary, because I always have "something" to say.  So, I just read other blogs and commented on them (see, I did have something to say).  Even geniuses need a break to recharge and I am by far no genius.

Just by skipping a day gave me a subject for today's blog.  Now isn't that ironic?  Of course maybe I ought to skip a week or so and then I could come up with a really good blog.

Yesterday, I was going to write about stuff out there in the universe, but I have written a lot about that in the past and I thought that it may start to bore you.  Of course, to me that subject is never boring even though space is mostly filled with nothing, which is boring.  Maybe one of biggest reasons that space isn't boring is that we are like infants just beginning to learn about the universe around us.  If our universe keeps expanding like some think it is, as time goes by, we will be sitting in a very lonely place with few things to see in the night sky.  Hey, sorry about that!!  I got off my subject.  Just don't panic if I miss blogging once in awhile.  Now, you all have a great day today, you hear?

Wondering where Spring time went.

Just when I was getting used to the warm days and balmy nights, I wake up to a feezing morning.  No, I am not exagerating, it got down to 31 degrees this morning about 06:00 this morning.  This has been a realitively warm winter and I guess I am spoiled, because it felt really cold to me!!

As you can see, I am out of good ideas for my blog this morning.  I went out yesterday and took a few pictures of some wild flowers, but after looking at them this morning, I realized that I had shown similar ones before on my blog.  So, there you have it.  I am brain dead this morning and I just wrote a boring blog that didn't say anything important.  Maybe tomorrow I can come with something a little better.  Then again, maybe not.  So, you all have yourselves a very great day today, you hear?
