The other day, we were grocery shopping and I spotted a jar of Jalapeno Bread-N-Butter pickles. Oh dang are they good!!! I ate some on a sandwich just a few minutes ago.
The above picture I found on line, but the ones we bought were Del Dixie. Let me tell you, these are worth trying. Hey, if you don't like them, send them to me (grin).
My Dad was a Heinz salesman and we were never out of ketchup, pickles, soup, etc. Did you know that back then, Heinz also made peanut butter. It was the kind that came with peanut oil on top and you had to stir and stir and stir until the whole jar was creamy. Anybody but me remember that? Now, you all have a great day, you hear?
I'm making my forty mile trek to the nearest store and will look for these. Best Maid usually has a good price on pickles.
ReplyDeleteActually the ones I bought were Del Dixie. And they were oh soooo goooood..
DeleteI think I'd like those ... a lot... even though we limit our sodium intake, some things are just worth it! About the peanut butter... when you buy "homemade" or about any peanut butter except brands like Skippy or Jif, you still have to stir the oil back into it... and sometimes refrigerate it after opening.... it just doesn't have the chemicals to keep it fresh and from separating like the big name brands.
ReplyDeleteSince I found out that peanuts carry lots of mycotoxins, I use almond butter instead. Almonds are tree nuts, peanuts mature under ground. I used to grow peanuts in my garden.
DeleteI remember the peanut on top of the peanut butter, way back when.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think that you were old enough. You and your wife look quite young to me.
DeleteI don't remember Heinz making peanut butter but my mother would can pickles - most bread and butter pickles. Both my mother and my grandmothers were big on canning. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou sure can't beat home made pickles.
DeleteMy Hubby loves pickles, Dizzy, often having a pickle sandwich - no meat or cheese, just pickles. For this, he likes the flat sliced spicy pickles - I think made by Vlasic. Try 'em if you find 'em. I'm allergic to cucumbers, so stay away from pickles - never liked them much anyway, But peanut butter - there's a different story! I'll take that just about any way and in anything, with Peter Pan creamy the one of choice. Ummm-Ummm, good!
ReplyDeleteI would have a pickle sandwich with your Hubby, for sure. But no peanut butter for me. Have you tried almond butter instead of peanut butter? You may want to switch.
DeleteHard to get anything with "kick" to it here in the Great White North. However, I'll keep my eyes open. That sounds like it would be great in a monster sandwich.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, they are great in sandwiches. They have just enough kick to them but the peppers are not overbearing.
DeleteI remember having to stir the peanut butter back in the day.
ReplyDeleteAnd it seemed to taste better back then, too.
DeleteI like pickles but rarely buy them for some reason. I never knew Heinz made peanut butter but I do remember having to stir to make it creamy. Love peanut butter.
ReplyDeleteI don't know when they quit making peanut butter, but it was quite a few years ago. But since I am 73, I have also been around for quite a few years.
DeleteNot pb, but I remember mom buying butter in a bag with a yellow thing to pop and do that with,,, making the whole bag yellow.
