Yep, got a call from our son last night and my wife talked to him for quite awhile. He has a layover in Anchorage and that gave him a chance to buy some odds and ends that he will need when he gets to the North Shore.
He posted some pictures he took out the window of the plane as it took off. He took some good pictures and one was of Lake Conroe. Of course he was fairly high by then but not as high as he would be cruising most of the way. He said the sky was really blue at 40,000 feet.
Oh yes, and here are his insulated work boots:
Last night he said the weather was great at Anchorage. If I remember correctly, he said it was 50 degrees and very comfortable. You want to bet it doesn't stay that nice do you? Shucks, we miss him already!! Now, you all have a great day, you hear?
How exciting to be off on this new adventure. Imagine the stories he'll have to tell! I'd bet he'll be wearing insulated "everything" before long! Best of luck to him. I hope he enjoys this experience. :)
ReplyDeleteHe also has a pair of insulated coveralls. Leaving our hot, humid area and flying up there would be a huge shock, at least it would for me.
DeleteIn northern Minnesota my insulated coveralls and boots were my best friends for most of the winter. Thermal underwear were on from Oct to May....
ReplyDeleteI don't miss it at all & I never see sub zero temps again for even a day (let alone weeks at a time) I won't feel bad!
I moved from Pennsylvania to Michigan and then down here to Texas. I know what cold is and I know what hot is, too.
DeleteSounds like a great adventure for him.
ReplyDeleteYes it is and will be. Most of the guys up there are X-Army, so my son fits right in.
DeleteLove those boots! I have always loved cold weather clothing much better than stuff for the hot weather. I love to wrap up in a puffy down jacket with a hood! Of course he will be needing more than a down jacket!
ReplyDeleteNot sure what he got as far as a coat. He was going to buy that stuff in Anchorage before going out to the work site. Not much available down here in Texas.
DeleteWe had a crew from TX working on the windmill project during the month of October. They were dressed for October in TX, not prepared for the frost and snow in the mountains. They got fooled by mild temps in the valley.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, our son is prepared. After he gets on site, there are no stores anywhere near.
DeleteI missed your last post so had to quickly backtrack to get the scoop about your son's new job. What an exciting adventure! Here's wishing him the best.... And especially a warm
ReplyDeleteDarned computer.... Anyway... Wishing him a warm place to sleep at night !
DeleteI am sure he will be alright, but it will take a little time to adjust from near a hundred degrees here when he left to cold, cold, cold up there.
DeleteI would have sworn i had left a comment on this one! LOLOLOL... This other med for my cholesterol isnt supposed to affect my memory and it sure has helped,,, a lot. Had a cousin that got stationed in Greenland way back when, and they had to cover everything just to step outside. We wrote each other back then. You dumped a liquid and it froze before it hit the ground. I could NOT handle that kind of cold.
ReplyDeleteGoing from Texas up to that area would be a shock to anyone's system. A hundred degrees difference or so.
DeleteI'm glad he is young enough to handle the change in the weather! I couldn't do it at my age.
ReplyDeleteBelieve I'll stay in Texas for a while longer!
I am with you on that!!! I am not sure he is young enough to handle it. Will know more about it later.
DeleteGlad your son called and all is well. I can remember being in Anchorage in late August and they all thought they were having a heat wave because the temp hit 55 degrees. lol Think I like the lower 48 better.
