What To Do Without TV

I was watching my regular old west TV shows this weekend and, puff, it was gone.  No, not the TV, just the picture on the TV.  It said that it lost the signal.  What?!?!?  I went outside and there was a mostly clear sky and I also checked, and the dish was still on the roof.  Yes, I have Dish satellite TV service.  I called them and they said that repairmen would be able to come out on Monday and, sure enough, they did.  They put new receiver buds on the part that picks up the signal that bounced off the dish and also repositioned it by pointed it to the eastern satellite instead of the western one that it had been pointing at.  They said there was less obstructions in that direction.

To make a long story short, they got their job done, the ladder loaded back up on their truck, and the best part, I can now receive all the stations I used to.  Funny, my wife was just saying before all this happened that maybe it would be better (no loosing the signal on stormy days) and cheaper to get the TV by other means.  Of course I am spoiled and like what we got.  For the mean time, I guess we will be keeping Dish.  They were nice enough to waive the ninety some dollar service charge, so it cost us nothing.  Yes, I was pleased about that.  OK, now let me get back to watching Wagon Train and I want all of you to have a great day, you hear?

  1. I haven't owned a TV for nearly 40 years and haven't missed it at all. HOWEVER... I really depend on the internet for everything from world news to seeing what my kids and grandkids are doing... even to use as a resource for what words mean or other information. I will admit that I keep the sound turned off all the time... still don't like that excess noise. Glad you got yours fixed... and at a terrific bargain ;-)

    1. I like to multi-task. I usually both watch the TV and surf the internet or write my blog posting at the same time. You will find my laptop on my lap most any time. If I ain't writing blogs or Facebook entries or such, I am playing games on it.

    1. Yep, I know. I have been telling myself that it is time to start painting again. But you know, never do today what you can put off until tomorrow. (grin).

  3. I've only got streaming TV from the Internet, things like Netflix. I rarely have time to follow TV shows so it works out.

Glad you got your westerns back!

    1. I am a lot older than you and spend most of my days in my rocker/recliner watching TV. I know, I know. . . I should get out and walk and get some exercise but I am waiting for cooler weather.

  4. I cancelled my TV service the last 2 wks in July, just before I went to Alaska. I don't think I miss it all that much, although sometimes I miss it more than I would have thought I would. I'm on the internet way more than I would like to be, but I did quit playing solitaire on it, and watch only a bare minimum of YouTube videos, such as one site that gives earthquake predictions. I do watch Bob Ross on YouTube, but it I go to them directly and not through the regular YouTube program. I'm still sitting way too much!

    1. We watch Bob Ross, also. Yes, I guess I do watch too much TV. Just now got through watching the debates. I have been for Trump from the beginning of the race.

    1. I believe I have seen every episode of that show at least two or three times. Was time to move on. Years ago when we first got Dish TV, cable was not available here. Now it is and my son, who's house is on the back of my property, has cable instead.

  6. I have DISH TV and Internet and I hate it. I also have to pay $8.00 a month so if I need to call them, it will only cost me $10.00. I have only called them twice and the last time they came. the tech gave my mother and I the flu.

I guess they did not charge you since living in the greater Houston area you have a choice of carriers and they were probably afraid to lose you as a customer.

In Del Rio we have no choice and they know it. It's DISH or Time Warner Cable and both in my opinion suck.

    2. I think you misunderstood Dizzy. I pay $136.02 a month of which I have to pay $8.00 monthly so they will only charge me $10,00 for a service call.

    1. When on the road in the RV, we never watch TV except some evenings, we put a tape in and watch a movie. The satellite on in the dome on the roof of the RV is has never been used. We take trips to escape the every-day life.

  8. Glad they got you back up and running. Some things are sacred and watching old westerns is one of them. If you are happy with what you have keep it.

    1. This morning I slept in and missed them, but not to worry, they were recorded and I will watch them later. Right now we are watching The Price Is Right game show. It is the only game show we watch.
