Waiting on New Batteries

My two engine batteries in my RV have died.  The service man showed up yesterday and checked them out.  He got the information off of them and checked and there were two in stock back at the store.  So, he said he would be here this morning around 08:00 to replace the old ones with new ones.  Also, it seems that the latch that locks the battery slide tray in place is broken.  Not sure how that can be fixed or if the the batteries can be replaced.

He said that they were five years old and that is about the expected life time for them.  Really?  It seems to me that back in the good old days batteries lasted a lot longer than that.  Since my Jeep is ten years old and on its second battery, I guess it is time for a new one for it, too.

There is a lot of rain around the area.  I hope it holds off until after the battery man gets here, so he can complete the battery switch.  Nothing seems to be simple anymore!!  Hope you all have a great day, you hear?

  1. Most things lasted longer in the old days. Today things are made to self destruct in less than five years. Have a great weekend.

  2. I seem to recall batteries always having a 5 or 6 year life span, but I don't think I ever replaced one until it gave me trouble. Batteries, like a lot of things, seem to not last as long, but then time goes a little faster for us oldies but goodies, so we think everything is breaking down in less time than they used to!

  3. Service man came, replaced the two batteries for the engine and checked and added water to the four house batteries. Everything, battery wise, should be good now..

    1. Yes, it is about right, 5 to 6 years. These have not quite hit the that mark yet, but pretty close to 5 years. I don't remember when the house batteries were installed, but they seem good for now.

  5. Personally, I wish I could either replace or recharge batteries to extend my energy level.... my hearing aid batteries last about 1 week and that's about the best I can hope for. Glad you get 5 years out of yours ;-)

    1. The house batteries have a regulator that keeps them charged when either I am using shore power or running the generator. I don't believe that the engine batteries do. They only charge when the main engine is running.

    1. My RV has been sitting for over a year and a half. Got it running once during that time. I will make sure it gets run more often from now on.

  8. And don't forget the tires. They only last a maximum of 7 years. Go check the date code. I need to replace the tires on my Wanderlodge, but won't till I'm ready for a trip. It probably needs batteries too.
