Wondering About Jeep Service.

My Jeep Liberty is now ten years old.  It has, and continues to be a great dependable vehicle that has given me very little trouble.  I took it in this morning for its scheduled service.  They plugged a tablet into it and said it needed a lot of stuff done.  I was about ready to shoot that tablet!!  As far as I know, they have never done that before.  Maybe that dang thing is pre-programed to find all kinds of problems.  The service guy started reading of the list.  That list looked like Santa's long list of bad kids. . .

To make a long story short, they wanted a grand or so to service it.  I told them to skip the alignment part so I got it down to eight hundred.  Still an awful lot as far as I am concerned.  They have a building on their lot that is occupied by Enterprise car rental and the Jeep service man said that they would take care of the rental cost.  So, I drove home in a dark blue Nissan Versa.

I told him the least he could have done was let me have a car that was made in America.  After getting home, I looked it up and dang, they do make them here.  In fact, they make them here, in Mexico, and in Japan.  Anyway, it is transportation if needed.  I sure hope they get my Jeep back to me today, but I have my doubts.  Tomorrow morning is grooming day for the pups and one condition of the rental was, "No Pets".  I guess I better call today and change the appointment.  Now, you all have a great day, you hear?

  2. Imagine my surprise when I discovered my 1991 Honda was made in California!

    1. The good old American Chevy is made in other countries, too. In today's era of easy shipment, parts can be made all over the world.

  3. When I went back into the job market in 1982 (after getting all my kids in school), I went out looking for a car, and the 1st place I visited was a Nissan dealer. The salesman was so insulting to me (a woman wanting to by a car on my own) that I swore I would never drive or own a Nissan as long as I live. I have a very long memory, and the list of products I avoid is just as long. I would not be surprised to find the Jeep needs some extra work performed due to its age, but I'd feel better about it if a service person could check it and figure it out himself. I don't trust those tablets and computers.

    1. Sometimes I don't trust tablets, computers, or the people who use them!! I have had very good service from this auto dealer and another fellow I talked that was getting a rental, said the same thing.

  4. After being caught in a mechanic's wet dream: travelers in need of car repairs, our $555 bill reached $1,300 and by the time we were nearly home, we realized the gas gauge hadn't been hooked up. Our local mechanic said it would cost another $555 to pull the tank again. So right now Joe is driving 600 miles BACK to the original mechanic to get it done right, and with no charge.

Okay. That's a lot of money. But compared to $38,000 for a new car?

Keep your Jeep lil' buddy, but hell, get it aligned!!!

  5. These mechanics need people to bring their vehicles in so they can stay in business... your vehicle was going well and would probably continue to do so, why not... you go to the doctor and the doctor does test on you, hopefully, like the mechanic to find something, anything wrong or perhaps wrong even possibly wrong so they can charge you to fix it.
Your car like you would be good to go and you'd save a lot of dollars if you didn't have anything to do with mechanics and doctors... Neither of them care about you... they care about how much money they can take from your wallet... they are both legalized pick-pockets and thieves. One is a blue collar thief and the other a white collar thief... sorry, got carried away with that thought...

    1. Doctors are worse than mechanics, but they both fall into the same category.

    2. I have to put in a good word for my auto mechanic, Jesse owner of Neighborhood Garage in Rancho Cordova CA. He is legendary in this part of Sacramento for being honest, reasonable and an excellent mechanic.

    3. There are some really good, honest ones out there, but they are hard to find. Once you find one, hold on to him or her.

  6. A lot of that service is just expensive checking:( On a car, if it is running good and the common sense service is being done, I skip the rest. Our Saturn view toad which we traded at seven years old only had oil and filter changes and a new set of tires. It had 100+K driven and 50K dragged behind the motorhome. I still got book on the trade in. The recommended all kinds of stuff over the years, but it seemed silly to me. I can only hope the folks that buy it have my luck:)

    1. Yep, I should have told them to change the oil and filters and I would get back with them on the rest. I am always smarter after the fact.

  7. $200 for an alignment? That's a lot of money for that job.
If your tires are not wearing funny or something is not loose in the front end then why do it?

    1. I am not doing it at this time. The tires are worn uneven, but the last trip out, the wheels turned to the left and one tire blew out damaging the fender liner and fender and I pulled it quite a ways until someone motioned to me that I had a problem. The rearview camera just showed the Jeep coming right along. By the time I got stopped the tire was almost on fire. Melted rubber was stuck on the exhaust pipe and smelled for a few days.

    1. Maybe they think since my Jeep is ten years old, I will buy a new one. Just so happens I like the one I have or I wouldn't have kept this long.
