Wondering when I will have AC

It always happens on one of the hottest days of the year.  What, you may ask.  Well, my central AC went out.  When my wife and I got back from grocery shopping, the house felt a little on the warm side.  It didn’t take long to figure out that the AC unit was not working.  The fan was running but just blowing hot air.  (Something I have been accused of a few times.)  I went outside and the unit out there was just humming.  I did not enjoy the song that it was humming.  I called the repair people but this is their busy time and they said that they couldn’t come until Thursday, but if possible, they would try to work us in tomorrow (which is today)  I have my fingers crossed but the odds are not in my favor.  So later in the afternoon, I called the RV place and explained my problem and wondered if I could come and get my RV and bring it home to stay in until my AC was fixed.  The guy said sure, so I hurried right over there and when we went out to get it, the driver’s area was torn out for access to the power window motor and it was not safe to drive.  Dang!!!!  I headed back home and we spent a very warm evening (indoor temperatures in the mid 90’s) and a hot night.  This morning is a lot cooler than any for quite some time and they are not predicting the triple digit numbers like we have had in the past few days, so maybe it will be more bearable today.  In the mean time, I am not going to put much effort into anything to get over heated.  There is no way to cool off if I do.  We are hoping that the AC guy can get here today and that it is fixable.  If not, it may take longer to get a new one.  It just seems to be one thing after another.  But, you all have a great day and keep cool, you hear?

  1. No AC in TX is serious business. Hope it's fixed soon. Just bad luck the RV is out of order at the same time.

I don't even own AC at my house.

  2. I'll get my tool bucket and be right over, if I leave now I 'll get there Saturday morning. The ac will be fixed and we can go inside and have a cup of coffee. If your outside fan is running and the compressor is humming like a electric heater and the shell is too hot to touch, it 's either locked up (bad) or the capacitor is shot (easy) . Sometimes the capacitor will bulge out like an over pressurized soda can. You can also check the wire connections at the compressor, make sure they are not loose or rusted away at the connectors. If the compressor is locked up, they make a hard start capacitor that can be wired in with your exsisting capacitor to give it an extra kick. So many service people these days want to sell you a new system no matter what 's wrong. Hope you get a someone who is willing to take the time to troubleshoot. Hope you get it perkulating again soon.

  3. Sixbears, I bet you don't need it, especially at night. So, just how many days a year do you have 100 degree or higher weather? Did I hear zero? (grin) If the RV was in for major repairs I would understand but just the power window??? New awning is already on.

  4. Jimkabob, wish you lived closer, but "Come on down" anyway. BTW, when are you going to retire? You have been talking about it for the last 20 years, right?

    1. Hate to rush into things, but in this case I'll make an exception. All of a sudden I've found out I'm a tired old man.

  7. Yep, just had the same problem with my a/c. We checked the freon and added a little, but the coil still froze up. It ended up being the control board and the thermostat. It cost about $300 and worth every penny. Good luck Diz.

  8. Jimkabob, wait to you get as old as I am. . .

Trouble, no problem, we made it through the night and just now the repair man got it up and running. Starting to feel the difference already.

HJ, How very nice of you. AS I told Trouble, got it up and running, but I really do appreciate the invite. Maybe one of these days soon we can have a cup of coffee together.

Michael, Nothing froze up on mine, it just sat there and hummed, so I pulled the shut off switch. Running good right now, knock on wood.

  9. Glad you are back to a cool situation. I have survived so far without a/c, but the ans help. Also the fact that it gets right cold during the night and the cool lasts all morning.

  10. Gypsy, the temperature inside the house got up to close to 100 and with the high humidity this close to the Gulf, it was not the most comfortable I have ever been (grin). Got it fixed just before lunch and just now got back with the RV. So all is back to normal.

  11. Just a question DD.
How did the 'pioneers of the west' get on without AC?

  13. TFT, haven't you heard of global warming (grin). Actually I was getting used to the heat, it is the humidity that gets me. 100 degrees and 80 percent humidity is hard for me to take.

MsB, yes we do and in fact there are two ceiling fans out there. Trouble is it is filled up with stuff out of my office. I was redoing my office before every other thing got in the way. I need 72 hour days and the energy of two 20 year olds to get all my projects done.
