Wondering about front yard mushrooms.

In front of my house in the shade of oak trees, I found some mushrooms growing.  Some were a big clump and others were tan to red color scattered all around with no particular order.  No fairy rings of mushrooms in this bunch.  Here are some pictures I took yesterday.  The first two are of the clumps, one taken from one side and the one taken from the other:

Here are some of the random brown mushrooms.  These and the red ones are small mushrooms.

And the little red ones:

You don’t have to travel far to find interesting things to look at.  Plants, flowers, fungi, trees, birds, insects, reptiles, and amphibians all live right around all of us.  All we have to do is take time to look.  You will be surprised what you find in that jungle that is your yard.  Have a good day and take a safari outside and see what you can find.  If you live in the city, find a park or empty lot somewhere.  Just get out and have a great day, you hear?

  1. Do you know what 'shooms are OK to eat? I know some are poison, so, I always stay away from the wild ones. Not to far from my home town is a place that grows and sells all kind of mushrooms, at a pretty decent price also. I love'em. When I would put them in my salad at work, most people made faces. But, I came from Chester County, PA, and at that time, it was the mushroom capital of the world!

  2. True,,there is a whole nuther world of plant life outside huh? I used to get big beautiful mushrooms out in the yard. But never got anyone to tell me for sure they were OK to eat. So I never did.

And your right about the other world out in our yards. I watched a crow walk the yard the other day. He'd stop and take a good long look at the ground then dig up a grub worm!! I rarely see any grubs unless I stir up some dead leaves or the link.
And the nesting swallows will swoop just above ground level and snatch bugs outta the air that I didn't see.

  3. Sharon, I used to live in Butler County up north of Pittsburgh and they used the old limestone mines to grow mushrooms in. Back when I lived up there, I had a couple really good books on identifying them. Some look alike but have different spoor colors.

Ben, one must take the time to observe things. There is all types of life everywhere.

  6. Trouble, I was always the happiest when out in nature, far from the city lights.

Yes, I just posted in what ever font is standard. Didn't specify any special font. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hermitjim, it sure does for me. Have to get out now and then.
