Do you ever wonder what lies ahead?

I am at the age where I wonder what lies ahead.  No, I don’t mean while driving down the road, I mean in life.  I am completing my 6th decade and it seems that my body has aged one of those decades in just the last year.  It seems every time I do something that requires more than lying or sitting, something on my body starts hurting.  I am going to quit complaining about it; at least it lets me know I am still alive.  Speaking about getting old, an old high school class mate and buddy sent me this in an email:
During a visit to my doctor, I asked him, "How do you determine whether
or not an older person should be put in an old age home?"
"Well," he said, "we fill up a bath, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup

and a bucket to the person to empty the bathtub."
"Oh, I understand," I said. "A normal person would use the bucket because

it is bigger than the spoon or the teacup."
"No" he said. "A normal person would pull the plug out. Do you want a bed
near the window?"
Kind of makes you wonder what is in store for us on down the line.  Actually, I would have failed that test, too, because they only gave three choices, and like older people, I try to follow instructions.  Now, if it were worded different, like “these three items are some of your choices”, then it would allow the older person to think “outside the box”, so to say.  I hope that my “old age home” has wheels on it (grin).
There is a cool front moving in today.  Actually, it moved through about 04:00 this morning and it sure will not hit the 80’s today.  It is only 44 degrees out there this morning and the high is only supposed to be in the mid 60’s.  But, you all have a great day now, you hear?

  1. That's what I been talk'n bout for the last year Dizzy. "What ya gonna do now Billy Bob"??? A day don't go by that I don't have some thought of the com'n years and where I gonna be....or what shape I gonna be in.

I failed the bathtub thingy too. Same as you, there was only 3 choices....I chose the teaspoon think'n I would live a longer life emptying that bathtub at a slower rate.

    1. We had similar type problem solving projects while in Training with Xerox. I did good on them. Basically what they were teaching us was to think outside the box. KISS!!!

Shoot nowadays I'm in a quandary everyday about simple things, BUT I've learned from you to walk into the room slowly and look around. What you are there for will come to you.

Now what was I gonna say? :-)

  3. When it gets down to it, all any of us have is right now.

For what's it's worth, I did think of pulling the plug. That's because I'm lazy and look for the easy way.

  4. Billy Bob, Your choice of the spoon was more correct than any of the three, since the spoon is the only thing small enough to get the last bit of water out of the tub. You keep going, BB, I don't ever want to catch up to you.

Ted, Thinking is good for you, or so I am told. Maybe from now on I should double space the text (grin).

  5. Ben, I usually think outside the box, but sometimes the box closes in on me.

6bears, You are correct, pulling the plug is the easy way. I am lazy, too, and the older I get the more it show (grin).

  6. Now you got me to thinking about the future more than I should!

Lazy is good! At least in us older guys! If I could only convince the others around me, I'd be fine!

  7. HJ, you are so right, it is way too hard to convince others that lazy it the way to be. I still haven't convinced my wife.

  8. I stopped thinking about it. Now I adapt to it and press on. I'm getting quite good at it.

  9. Chose the spoon too, long time to do it. And yep, i think about my future a lot of the time, so i'm doing all i can to keep myself self-sufficient, and would like to do more. Words of advice to the younger generation,,,,stay fit! Your health is the most important thing.

  10. You're not old yet DD.
    You're even younger than me.
Don't worry about it and certainly don't sit around waiting for it to happen.
Get out and enjoy your new motorhome, it's no good leaving it sitting in your yard, unless you're sitting in it of course, out of sight of the house, pretending you're somewhere else, remote and cut off from the world.
Have a few days without being plugged into the electricity, it'll be good for you, and it'll take your mind off whatever it was that started this post...

  11. Michael, the box that most people build around their minds. Glad that you have no box.

Oldfool, we all have to adapt to survive, but I put off the adaptation as long as possible.

Trouble, I agree with you on the self-sufficientency, and your advice to the younger generation is right on!!
