Wondering and Scratching My Head.

I have never been called too smart, although I have been told not to get smart.  Now, if being smart is a good thing, why was I told not to get smart.  I just walk off scratching my head.

In the grocery store, I see that they sell cans of evaporated milk.  Now why would anyone want to buy that.  If the milk has all evaporated, wouldn't that can be empty?  Now who would want to buy an empty can?  I walk off scratching my head.
Today is leap day.  I guess they call it that because every time it shows up there is a leap year.  Now explain it to me why they call it a "leap" year.  Wouldn't a leap year be one that you leap or skip over instead of one that has an extra day?  I walk off scratching my head.

A fellow said that he had a "near" miss the other day when driving to town.  Shouldn't that be a near hit?  Of course when you say you nearly missed that, that means you hit it, right?  OK, I am going to walk away from writing this blog scratching my head and I hope some of you are scratching yours, also.  Yes, I could go on and on and on but you all have a great day today, you hear?

  1. I'm with you, Dizzy, on this one..... I guess those aren't exactly oxymorons, but... so many of our expressions seem to mean exactly the opposite... but yet we all understand them. My favorite... I found it the last place I looked. Well... duh... would you keep on looking if you found it?

    1. Yes, that is true. BTW, that was always one of my favorite grips. I would say that I only looked three or four other places after I found it. (grin)

  2. Be careful - you might thin out your hair with all the head scratching! Isn't the English language incredible?

    1. I will be careful with the scratching. . . and I have other words for the English language that are not as nice as "incredible".

  3. Being a Transportion engineer I always wondered about why 'You drive on a parkway but park on a driveway'. No ones ever explained that to me satisfactorily. Now that I'm retired I just don't worry about it anymore.

    1. That is the trouble with us engineers, we have to know and understand how and why everything works.

    1. That is one of my goals in life, to make people think about things that they normally wouldn't think of.

    1. There are a lot of other reasons that make me scratch my head. The ones in the blog are just a few of them.

  7. Jumbo Shrimp? Honey, I have been worrying about my mind lately. I have proof I'm not right, but every day I think there's a new car in the garage.
