Wondering about a friendly ghost.

Ghosts are suppose to be scary but what about Casper, the friendly ghost?  I am sure you all have all heard about Casper.  Not only is he friendly but but he is also cute:

Now who could be afraid of Casper?  Now, I wonder who he was before he died?  The sad part of the story is that he was probably a young boy having fun and maybe chased a ball out on a busy street and . . . .

Who knows, the writers of the original story (Seymour V. Reit and Joe Oriole) never said.  Most of us thought that this billowy puff of friendliness originated in comic books but that isn't the case.  Way back in 1945, only two years after I was born, Casper first appeared in a short cartoon but he didn't have a name at that time.

The first cartoon didn't make much of splash but the second one entitled "There's Good Boos Tonight" released in 1948 started the Casper phenomena.  I am glad it did.  I always enjoyed those cartoons and still do.  Yes, no matter how old a man gets, there is a small part of him that is still a boy.  Please don't become a ghost anytime soon but have a great day today, you hear?

  3. Sixbears, we will never know who killed Casper the kid.

Justastick, you know, that could be but I will have to check and see if the Doughboy was around before Casper.

  4. My human is a big fan of the cartoon series. Evidently, he's still around and haunting a house in Wyoming. Bet you could see through this comment.

And now I shall vanish, but I shall return. Just going to check if the ghost is clear....

  6. Loved Casper! I was born in 1943 also ... never much cared for Mickey ~ although I liked him f'sure but Bugs Bunny was m'man. Then Donald Duck ... Daffy? not too much nor Porky and Petunia .... LOVED Foghorn Leghorn and Casper.

We used to get a double features, a serial, newsreel and a cartoon or two, popcorn, big orange and a turkish taffy bar all for a quarter. 9 cents to get into the movie.

Red Ryder, Buser Crabbe ... Lash LaRue... am I writing a post? hahaa....

you always get me in remembering mode ... ;)

    1. When I was a kid in the summer time, I spent most of my time in the woods but once in awhile my Mom wanted to go to town. She would flag down a bus and we went to town. I got a quarter and went to the theater to watch cowboy movies while she shopped. Now I watch the old movies on TV. I especially like the Western Channel.

    1. So sorry I got you thinking of ghosts. I guess I should have written about night stalking vampires, or maybe wherewolves, or goblins, or all those thing that go bump in the night. Dang, I must be getting ready for Halloween.
