Wondering what people comment about.

Did you ever wonder what prompts a reader to post a comment?  Let me put it another way, did you ever wonder what heightens interest and catches attention so that someone will comment.  I sure do and I have no idea what so ever does that.  I write things that I think will catch a lot of attention and comments, and get very few if any on the part that I thought was the high light.  The opposite is true.  I have had blogs that I thought were highly interesting and didn't get more than one, maybe two comments and those from my faithful readers.

Take yesterday, for example.  I thought the highlight of the blog was the Cowboy Bubble Bath and I only got one comment (from Hermits Baby Sis) on that.  Maybe I have a warped sense of humor, but I got a real laugh out of the bubble bath beans, so much so that I used that picture I took to make a card that I sent to my Aunt in the Pennsylvania nursing home.  I also wrote a simple poem and printed it on the card.  Just in case you are curious, here is the poem:
Texas Cowboy Bubble Bath

Old Texas Cowboys had it rough.
Herding cows sure did make them tough!!

So when their stink got really bad.
Thoughts of bubble baths made them glad.

So next time you have a bad day,
Get tough, practice the cowboy way.

But just don't eat too many beans.
You sure don't want to mess your jeans.

Now I did warn you that it was simple.  What do you expect from someone as dizzy and simple minded as me?  Now eat some beans, take a bubble bath, and have a great day, you hear?

  2. And then those of us who would comment IF we had internet... and probably one or two of us who thought we'd posted a comment but guess it was just in our imaginations.... but.... your thoughts today reminded me of a comment I made to a blog where I wasn't really familiar with the blogger (in other words, didn't know how sensitive they were to my weird sense of humor).... the guy doesn't eat beans... and I just asked how in the world he could be an old fart if he didn't indulge. Never ever heard from that person... guess I pushed the wrong buttons.... oh well... we don't have a bathtub and I don't think the beans bubble bath would work in a shower.....

  3. It doesn't bother me to "be picked on". I kind of enjoy it and will give it right back. I, too, have a weird sense of humor.

  5. Barney, then I will not reply to your comment. Oops, I guess I just did.

Trouble, every one is interesting and has a story to tell. Some have a million stories and some have only a couple.

  6. Sometimes if there have been comments before mine, I don't want to just repeat what they've already said, so I will take another part of the blog to comment on. Sometimes I comment on the part I find most interesting to me, or appropos to my eperiences. But I know what you mean - I've outdone myself sometimes, or so I thought, and no one has even noticed! I guess that keeps our heads from swelling up too much.

  7. Gypsy, I think you got that right. And I sure don't want my head swelling, then I would have to buy new cowboy hats.

  8. Sometimes I read but there is nothing to comment about because the post is complete in itself. Sometimes I comment because there is something I want to say about the post or I want to ask a question etc. I no longer have the time to read excessively long posts anymore due to time restrictions. And I follow quite a lot of blogs which I visit regular and I do check out anyone who leaves a comment or follows me - which again means I sometimes don't have the time to return to the same blog several times a week, as some people post almost everyday. I try to balance it all out throughout the week, if I can.

  9. Rum-Punch Drunk, I understand. Blogging does take up way too much of my time, but I love it, I love the bloggers, and am interested in what they say and do.

  10. okay, the beans are FUNNY! comments, It is a hit or miss thing. I have few people who comment or follow me, but I have high page views every day. I know a lot of my friends and family won't sign up at Google so they can't comment.....probably a good thing!

  11. I thought I commented on the post you reference...guess my CRS is acting up again :(

I try to comment on all the blogs I follow but I usually can only go online late at night after putting my mother to bed.

Sometimes if the subject is something I know nothing about I will read the post but not comment...why show my ignorance?
