Tall trees and a painting.

When I was standing out in my back yard this morning, I marveled at just how tall the oak trees around my house have grown.  They reach halfway to the sky (grin).  OK, maybe not halfway, but at least a quarter of the way. . . Anyway, the heighth of these oaks is longer than the distance they are from my house.  Since this is the case on multiple sides of my house, it creates two things.  One, lots of shade to help keep the place cool; two, if they blow over in a storm it would not be good, especially if they fell toward the house.  But, I do so enjoy nature that I don't think I would ever cut them down.  I try to keep my place as natural as possible.  Well heck, that is the best excuse I can come up with to only mow a small part of it.  I was standing at the bottom of my back porch steps when I took this picture:

And just a little bit more to the right:

A little change in subject matter.  Why?  Cause it doesn't matter.  Or does it matter?  Way back when I was doing some acrylic painting, I showed you at the time a lot of the ones that I had done.  I don't think I showed you this one, so will do so now:

Not only did I paint the moon, I also howled at it. . No, I didn't, really.  Notice Casiopia to the left?  Yeh, I know you wouldn't see Casiopia that close to the moon, but an artist can take a few liberties, can't he?  So, during the day just walk in the sunshine and I hope the moon will light your way at night.  Now, have a good day, you hear?

  1. I love those trees, and I also love all the shade I can get. Way too hot here in TX not to want that.
    Love that moon too.

  3. Trees

    I think that I shall never see
    A poem lovely as a tree.

    A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
    Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;

    A tree that looks at God all day,
    And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

    A tree that may in summer wear
    A nest of robins in her hair;

    Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
    Who intimately lives with rain.

    Poems are made by fools like me,
    But only God can make a tree.
    Joyce Kilmer

  4. Touble, no, I would not trade them. I feel so much better when I am surrounded by trees.

    Justastick, I always loved that poem and it is so very true, except around here, they haven't had much snow on them.

  6. We were surrounded by 50 foot tall trees in Indiana. I loved the shade, but with every tornado warning I cringed. Four days after we moved to Florida and still owned the house in Indiana, one of those trees ended up in my living room. crap happens

    What I noticed about your painting is your superb ability to reproduce the different hues and colors that separate sky, moon, and water. Some people think they are the same. You captured true nature.

  7. Justastick, it sure is!!

    Lotta joy, too bad it fell on the house but at least you were away and not in any danger. Thank you for your compliment on the painting. I always try to paint what is natural. I don't always get it right.

  8. My mom & dad's neighborhood in suburban Cincinnati was full of trees - everybody had trees all around their houses, mostly maples. A tornado came along and the trees took the hit. Some houses had a bit of roof damage but not much, and no houses were damaged. The trees were trimmed of all the damaged branches and the neighborhood looked like a new subdivision for a couple of years until new growth came back on all the trees.

  9. Was there really a WKRP radio station in Cincinnati? I still watch the reruns of that old show. I thought it was funny and well done.

    1. I think everyone in Cincinnati watched that show, but there was never a WKRP!

  10. As long as you have your artistic license, you can get away with anything -even moving the stars around.

  11. I wish I had oaks here, I just have pines, as I am so close to the Sam Houston National Forest.

  12. I'm liking trees. Although there's a huge tree that kinda dominates my garden and being a tree that cannot be cut back because of preservation laws, I just have to admire it.

    You painted the moon? Wow, y'all must have long arms. Seriously, that acrylic painting is rather surreal in a pleasant way. Be well, I'm going now....

  13. Sixbears, just as long as it is on canvas. I don't think I could move either the real Casiopia or the Moon.

    Penny, I have both. The largest pines were logged off of here long before I bought it and I have been here for over 30 years so they have all gotten tall.

    Klahanie, Dang, I had to do arm stretching exercised for years just get them long enough to paint the stars (grin). Good comment, got a laugh from it.

  14. I love trees but after Hurricane Ike and the number they did on my house...I decided it was best to part with them.

    Did not know you dabbled in painting...nice job!

  15. MsB, yes, trees can do a lot of damage, but I love trees and will take my chances. I know of two different people who were killed by falling trees. Thanks, and I need to do some more of it. I do enjoy painting.
